Mike and I decided about 3 years ago, our goal/dream was to go sailing down the IWC (Intercoastal Waterway), with the hopes of exploring the Chesapeake and further south (Bahamas!!!). Our first step was getting a boat; and while I love dearly our little 1964 19' Oday, I am 100% positive staying on that for months at a time would have ended in one of our deaths...and not by sea.
After our wedding in October 2010, we started the "Great Boat" search with a vengeance. We had limited money, and knew we were going to get a nice fixer-uper. We went from Newport, RI all the way to Maryland in search for this elusive boat...and we found it on LI, right next to our old college (where Mike was teaching at the time)...go figure. She was a serious bargain and would require very little "fixing". Her original name was still on when we bought her, so to appease Poseidon, we never mentioned what her name was to be for many, many months (took me forever to scrape that paint off!) but eventually, the You & I was outfitted and ready for her (and our) big move from Glen Cove, LI to her new home at the Raritan Yacht Club (RYC) in Perth Amboy, NJ. Having only sailed in Barnagat Bay and on a significantly smaller boat, this was a harrowing, but exciting task that we (Mike) looked forward to. To see some of the photos (and my awesome Salty Dog) of the trip(s):

It was only recently that this dream of sailing started to fall into place...and with only 1 week long cruise under our belt, we are gonna do it...6 months on a boat...with my husband...and Salty...and no storage....We are hoping to cast off the mooring at RYC August 30th...but as the captain is currently in Alaska (who leaves their wife to pack up the condo/boat alone a week before they set sail!!!) and I am still working until next Friday, this date may change slightly.
